I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)
This is a song by Lee Ann Womack. I think alot of parents out there want to give their children roots and wings. I want my daughters to live the lives they dream for themselves, but never forget where they came from. I want to them to love without barriers and without the fear of heartache. I want them to know that they always have a place to fall that is soft and sturdy. I want them to realize that the hardest times we face in life are the times that teach us what we are truly made of. They teach us what is and isn't within our grasp and control. I want my daughters to know the history of their genes and character traits. I want them to know that they can blame their cravings for carbs are ingrained in their genes. I want them to see their history in their eyes and that the strength they need to accomplish the dreams they have set for themselves is already there.
I want them to know that they do not have to call their genetic family their family. Family is the people we choose to attach ourselves too and take with us on our wings. I want them to know that their genetics do not make them one thing or another, they simple give us the blue prints to plot a course. But the course that's plotted isn't always the one they need to take. I want them to know they have choices in life and that God has given us the tools to make those choices. It is my job as their mother to teach them how to use those tools and to support them when they choose not to.
It's my job to teach them to dance.
